About Us

Our Story

Luit Paddlers is a community of canoeists, kayakers and river lovers who share a passion for exploring the Brahmaputra River (locally known as the Luit). The Brahmaputra is one of Asia’s great trans‑boundary rivers, flowing for roughly 3,000 km through Tibet, India and Bangladesh. In Assam the river is affectionately called the Luit or Burha Luit (literally “old Luit”), and it features prominently in folk stories, songs and poems. Our club takes its name from this cultural heritage and strives to cultivate a healthy relationship with the river through recreational paddling, environmental stewardship and community outreach.

With a width that ranges from tranquil, glass‑smooth waters to braided channels and tidal bores, the Brahmaputra offers experiences for paddlers of every level. Whether you are new to kayaking or an experienced whitewater enthusiast, there is a place for you here. We organise regular training sessions, river safaris and clean‑up campaigns to keep our beloved Luit pristine and accessible.
